Four months of new experiences

When I decided to participate in Erasmus+ program I thought of Finland first, because I had been there before. I was there only for a week, but I liked the country very much. When it was time to return to Finland I was really happy and also a bit scared because I was the only one from Lithuania, but I knew that I would make a lot of new friends. I‘m studying publishing in Lithuania and in Finland I was studying communications, so I had quite different studies but they also related a lot. It was really interesting and exciting. Lecturers were really friendly and they encouraged discussions, they also always tried to help if you didn’t understand something.

People in Finland, to tell you the truth I didn‘t have time to feel alone.  People are really helpful and friendly. When I came to Finland I had heard that Finnish people are cold and silent. Actually, I met really friendly people and they were really nice, it was a pleasure to meet them. I will always remember my first days in Finland: I decided to go to the city center by bus and the first bus just drove away. I was wondering why this happened and later, when the second bus came it stopped and the bus driver explained to me that I have to raise hand to sign if I want to catch the bus. People mostly are cycling no matter what the weather is like, raining or snowing, slippery or not. It was a surprise to me. A bike is the best way to reach the city center or any other destination without a doubt.

In Finland they have quite an interesting sport called Pesäpallo, I think every foreigner should see a game, from the first sight it looks like baseball. I also really liked ice hockey, I attended several games and in my opinion it’s an exciting sport. There are so many sports and activities available. If students want to they can participate in special games or go swimming, dancing and so on. I think the most exciting ‘event’ is the Northern Lights. In Lithuania they are so rare that I hadn’t seen them before. I saw them in Finland and it was so beautiful, it is quite a common phenomenon.

Overall my experience in Finland was really exciting, I was and still am happy that I chose Finland.  If I get an opportunity I will choose Finland again. I think I will miss the country a lot but I hope to visit again one day.
